Citizenship Paths

By Birth: Children born to at least one Eritrean parent automatically acquire citizenship, regardless of birthplace.

By Naturalization: Foreign nationals who have legally resided in Eritrea for at least 10 years may apply for citizenship. Must demonstrate knowledge of local language and culture.

Dual Citizenship: Eritrea allows dual citizenship. Citizens living abroad can maintain Eritrean citizenship while acquiring citizenship of their country of residence.
